Mem Fox Author Study

This week begins one of our favorite Author Studies - Mem Fox! The kids will be learning about her, listening and responding to her books this week. She is from Austrailia and is truly an amazing Author and person. Author studies are so important in class because kids get to notice the way authors create text, learn about the author's style, borrow patterns, topics and language from the author, and think deeper about books. To learn more about Mem Fox and listen to interviews with her, check out this website:
Reading Rockets: A video interview with Mem Fox
You can also visit her website, Mem Fox

Here are some videos of Mem Fox reading her wonderful books:
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes

Her most famous book, Possum Magic

Ms. McAvoy's personal favorite, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge

Be sure to check the blog this week for more about our Mem Fox Author Study! Oh and be sure to go check out some of her books at the library for both you and your child to enjoy :)

visit us in April!

Report Writing

We have been working on Report Writing in our class. This lesson focused on matching headings and facts. The students worked in small groups to match facts about dogs to the headings. They really enjoyed this activity and will practice creating headings in their own reports.
